About Sultry Sunless
Hi I'm Kathy, owner and spray tan artist of Sultry Sunless spray tanning. I started Sultry Sunless because I'm addicted to spray tanning. Being a natural redhead, “fake tanning” was my only option. After years of using self tanner and booth tanning, I had my 1st custom spray tan...and there was no going back!
If you've never had a custom spray tan, don't ever get one because you'll never go back to booth tanning; it's seriously addictive. Ok, I'm kidding a little but not really.
I'm very picky and was not wowed by my options in my area, so that's when Sultry Sunless was born.
Every client’s tan is customized to their skin tone and desired result. When choosing a spray tan company, ask questions regarding their solution range, you'll be surprised how many companies only carry 1 or 2 solutions. Spray tanning is not one size fits most.

Why should I choose Sultry Sunless?Sultry Sunless tested over 150 solutions from more than 20 different brands personally on family & friends before choosing which solutions to use on clients. Sultry Sunless is committed to using the most amazing solutions that are beautiful in color, long lasting & fade evenly with the ability to customize each shade for each individual client. A lot of places only carry 1, maybe 2 solutions; custom spray tans are not a “one size fits all”. Sultry Sunless carries a wide range of solutions that can be mixed, making them customizable for each client's desired result. Sultry Sunless also offers full body drying powder that is specially formulated for drying and setting your spray tan, allowing you to get dressed immediately following application, eliminating the post-spray sticky feeling. Sultry Sunless purchases our products directly from distributors/wholesalers to ensure the quality of our products.

When should I book my appointment?It is always best to schedule as much in advance as possible. Wednesday-Friday are the busiest days for spray tanning, so to ensure an appointment date and time please text or email in advance. If you have an event on a Friday, the most ideal day to spray tan is 2 days prior; the same goes for a wedding. On the first day after your spray tan, you will be your darkest, so please keep this in mind when booking.

What forms of payments are accepted?Cash, Mastercard, Visa, Discover, PayPal and Venmo are accepted; no checks.

How long does a spray tan last?Sultry Sunless tans should last 4-7 days (or longer) depending on your skin type, daily activities and maintenance. We shed skin cells daily, some faster than others differing from person to person. The right maintenance products are imperative to ensuring your spray tan lasts long and fades evenly. Sunless tanning moisturizers and cleansers can be purchased through Sultry Sunless.

How do I prepare for my spray tan?You want to scrub/exfoliate your body using a non-creamy, non-oily bath gel or soap. You should shave and/or wax at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Prior to arrival, you should be free of any lotions, perfumes, deodorant, jewelry and makeup. Click here to learn more about your Prep & Tan Maintenance.

What do I wear during my spray tan appointment?Female clients are welcome to spray tan bare, with underwear and bra or old swimsuit. Just remember, whatever you wear will leave lines. So, if you are planning on wearing a backless dress, you do not want to wear a bra. Male clients are required to wear swim shorts or full coverage underwear, no exceptions. Consultation required before booking.

What do I wear after my spray tan appointment?Loose clothing, preferably dark in color and NO tennis shoes, denim or tight leggings for 24 hours.

How soon can I apply lotion after spray tanning?It is recommended to wait at least 8 hours after spray tanning before applying a moisturizer. You can apply a moisturizer after your initial rinse; however, this can lighten the final color as most solutions continue to develop up to 24 hours. If you apply lotion prior to your initial rinse, wash your hands well to keep the tanning solution from transferring to the palms of your hands.

How do I take care of my spray tan?Regardless of the solution you choose (Rapid or Regular 8 hour solution) you will want your first shower to be a water rinse only (no soap or wash cloth). With a rapid solution, you have the convenience of rinsing off within 2-6 hours after your appointment. All other solutions can be rinsed off in 8-12 hours or you may choose to sleep in it overnight. After a minimum of 8 hours (Sultry Sunless recommends 12 hours), you may shower with a sulfate/paraben free cleanser and always moisturize. It is recommended to use a product that does not contain certain alcohols that can be drying to the skin and does not contain mineral oils (certain oils can strip the tan). How to Prepare for & Maintain Your Tan

24-48 HOURS BEFORE YOUR SPRAY TAN APPOINTMENT:
Drinks lots of water - hydrated skin is healthy skin
Moisturize heavily the day before your appointment, more so than you typically do, paying particular attention to the shins, elbows, ankles, wrists.
It’s recommended to use a mitt or glove with a mild “translucent/transparent” shower gel of choice after all cleansing, shaving and washing hair. It’s best to use low-foaming or liquid gel cleanser. Foaming cleansers are normally for facial care, but body care versions are available. It's best to use a soap with mild detergents and a neutral pH that are non-moisturizing. Cleansers that are clear/translucent in the hand or container, meaning you can see light shine through (color does not matter) are safe choices. See photo:

NOTE: Best not to use bar soap before or after getting your spray tan.

IMPORTANT: Waxing and shaving must be done at least 24 hours before tanning. Waxing after your spray tan can remove the tan in the areas waxed.
Have pedicures & manicures done a day before your tan. Soaking feet and hands in water with soaps will cause the tan to stop developing on those areas and will result in untanned feet & hands.
Using medicated facial products that contain Retin-A or acne products can negatively affect your tan.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:

The morning of your appointment, you should take a very quick shower and do a very light exfoliation with a glove or mitt WITH WATER ONLY to make sure you removed all residue of products used the day before. This should be done at least 3 hours prior to your appointment.
Remove makeup & deodorant prior to your appointment. You must remove deodorant prior to your spray tan b/c deodorant will create a barrier on the skin and will create untanned or green armpits.
Avoid having any products on the skin, especially products with an oil in them as it will cause the tanning solution to bead up and run off the skin.
You can be completely nude or wear a strapless bra and underwear; this will depend on your comfort level. You can also wear a swimsuit for your appointment; turning it inside out is recommended if it's a light-colored suit.

REMEMBER: Whatever you wear will leave tan lines. So, if you are planning on wearing a backless dress, you do not want to wear a bra. Disposable undergarments will leave tan lines.
Plan to wear something dark & loose fitting after your spray tan.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT:

It’s best to wear a maxi dress or loose pants and top with flats or flip-flops after your appointment. If you must drive after your appointment and are wearing shorts or a skirt, it's recommended to place a towel on your car seat to protect the seat and your tan.
Avoid wearing leggings, jeans, socks, bras, and tennis shoes for at least 5-6 hours after tanning. Wearing skinny jeans within days after getting a spray tan can remove the tan along the inner thigh, knees and legs.
Do not use band-aides, face masks or pore strips post spray tan.
Avoid sweating and all contact with water prior to your initial rinse. Avoid moisturizing body washes with oil or exfoliating beads (see note above about soaps).
If sleeping in the tan, it is recommended to use old or dark colored sheets.
For regular solutions, wait at least 8 hours prior to your initial rinse, but no longer than 12 hours, using warm water only, no hot water, no soap and use your hands only until the water runs clear. Using soap will stop the tan from developing. Sultry Sunless recommends waiting at least 12 hours to use soap after getting your spray tan. To prolong your sunless tan, it’s recommended to avoid sulfates found in a lot of face & body products. Sultry Sunless has an assortment of sulfate free products that are sunless friendly, for purchase if needed.
Do not use shampoo or wash your hair for the first 12 hours after the appointment. Shampoo running down your body is the same as using soap and can cause streaking.
Pat dry (no rubbing or scrubbing) & avoid the use of a loofah or washcloth. Also, do not use hair removal products as they will remove your tan.
After 12 hours following your appointment, you may use spray tan friendly products to cleanse and moisturize your skin. Do not use a wash cloth or loofah while showering to prolong the life of your tan. Once again pat the skin dry. It is best to moisturize within the first 3 minutes after patting yourself dry.
Lock in your tan with sunless friendly moisturizers, available for purchase if needed.
After your tan has fully developed for 24 hours after your appointment, it is completely safe to go swimming. It is best to use a water resistant sunscreen. Sunscreens that repel water off of your skin will help keep your color richer, longer. It is also recommended to rinse off after being in water that may contain a high content of chlorine or salt. After you have rinsed, air dry and apply more sunscreen or moisturizer as needed.
Hot tubs, jacuzzi’s, saunas or swimming pools will shorten the lifespan of your sunless tan. Chlorine, saltwater and sand act as exfoliants, which can cause your tan to fade faster, streak and become patchy.

No matter your skin tone or skin type, use a sunscreen (alcohol free to maintain your sunless tan) daily. This is one of the most important steps in maintaining beautiful, healthy skin over your lifetime.
